There are as many as 3 settlements with this name in the Ignalina district. The largest is the center of the eldership. The areas are rich in high-quality clay, so a building materials factory operated here from 1974 to 1996. After the factory was closed, the village's population decreased by a thousand. Scenes from the Emmy-nominated film „Tokyo Court“ were filmed on the abandoned factory grounds.
