The Third Largest Hammer Exhibition in the World, Located in Linkmenys

This unique museum was founded in 2015, when businessman Antanas Kibickas donated his personal collection to the Ignalina Municipality. It was decided to establish the museum in the building of the Linkmenys eldership and community. Today, it occupies three small halls.

The museum houses more than 750 exhibits. Visitors can see the entire evolution of the hammer — from stone to iron. You can find everything from the smallest to the largest hammer, brought from various parts of the world: Morocco, Kenya, Portugal, Alaska, and others. Each tool has its own story. There are also many valuable Lithuanian hammers, but what makes the visit truly special is the lively storytelling...

A volunteer guide presents the exhibits in an engaging and witty way, seemingly inventing stories on the spot. Each hammer she picks up comes to life in her hands. It’s definitely worth visiting to see and hear everything.

For example, there’s a special hammer used to crack crab shells. However, a large part of the collection consists of tools from local masters — blacksmiths, shoemakers, carpenters, and woodcutters. Among the curiosities are tools used in age testing, medicine, cooking, and radio engineering.
