Historical Plant Garden

Other Objects

Just before the Feast of the Assumption, the Historical Plant Garden in Palūšė was symbolically opened to visitors. Outdoor educational spaces have been created, along with greenery compositions reflecting plants historically cultivated in Eastern Lithuania. Three groups of plants are displayed in separate garden sections, highlighting the diversity of species and their composition features, with the aim of introducing visitors to the plants traditionally grown for centuries in rural homesteads, towns, and manor estates. The plant assortment was prepared based on the inventory of historical plants conducted by the Directorate’s naturalists.

Next to the historical village and manor plant expositions, a modern garden section was established, where historically grown plants are integrated among species popular today. This exposition aims to show visitors that old and new can harmoniously coexist in gardens, creating a contemporary, deep, and unexpected impression.

Along the edges of the territory, a 10.5-are blooming meadow has been sown, illustrating how larger areas can be landscaped sustainably and modernly, both in urban and rural homesteads. This method is environmentally friendly, allowing new communities of insects, plants, animals, and microorganisms to emerge and existing ones to expand.

The garden is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. We invite you to discover, enjoy, and be inspired by the peace and diversity of this garden. At the same time, we kindly ask visitors to be attentive, responsible, and respectful of the environment, so that the garden may thrive and bring joy for a long time.

These green spaces are part of the GREEN STORIES project (LL-00188), implemented by the Directorate of Aukštaitija National Park and Labanoras Regional Park. The project is funded under the 2021–2027 Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Cross-border Cooperation Programme, aimed at biodiversity protection and raising public awareness and knowledge in the field of nature conservation.
