Just before Žolinė (2025), the historical plant garden in Palūšė was symbolically opened for visiting. Outdoor educational spaces have been created, and green spaces have been formed that reflect the plants historically grown in Eastern Lithuania. Three groups of plants are exhibited in separate green spaces, highlighting the diversity of cultivated plants and the peculiarities of their composition, in order to introduce garden visitors to plants that have traditionally been grown in rural, urban and manor homesteads for centuries. The range of plants has been compiled taking into account the inventory of historical plants carried out by the Directorate's naturalists and the lists provided.
Alongside the historical village and manor plant exhibitions, a modern green space has been created, integrating historically grown plants with plants popular in the present era. This exhibition aims to show visitors that the old and the new can perfectly blend in a green space, creating a very modern, profound and unexpected image.
A 10.5 are flowering meadow has been planted on the outskirts of the territory, illustrating how larger areas can be greened sustainably and in a modern way, both in the city and on country estates. This method is sustainable and nature-friendly, allowing for the creation of new and expansion of existing communities of insects, plants, animals and microorganisms.
The garden is open to visitors daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (during the summer season). We invite you to discover, enjoy and be inspired by the peace and diversity of this garden. At the same time, we ask you to be attentive and responsible, to preserve the created environment, and to act consciously so that the garden flourishes and pleases you for a long time.
These green spaces are part of the GREEN STORIES (LL-00188) project implemented by the Aukštaitija National Park and Labanoras Regional Park Directorate, funded under the 2021–2027 Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme, aimed at protecting biodiversity and strengthening public awareness and knowledge in the field of nature conservation.
