Memory places

On the last Sunday of summer in 2011, in the village of Kačergškė, at the celebration „Let’s Open the Gates of the Past“, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the 1831 uprising in the Kačergškė area, an oak sculpture (author Teofilis Patiejūnas) was unveiled in memory of the participants of the uprising. According to historical sources, a serious clash with the Russian Tsarist army near Kačergškė took place on May 21, 1831. After the battle near Glubok, in Belarus, a rebel unit led by Emilia Pliaterytė unexpectedly attacked a detachment of the Tsarist army that had arrived from Vidžiai and drove it away. The uprising arose from the desire and aspiration for freedom, even life was unimportant.
