On February 13th, we invite you to travel through old Europe with music!
Singer Renata Dubinskaitė has collected the most beautiful melodies of Spanish, Portuguese, Sephardic (Spanish Jews), French, Italian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, German, Norwegian, English, Irish and other nations for the program “Melodies of Ancient European Nations” – folk songs or works by unknown authors, close to folk music. The concert will begin with the oldest surviving melody, carved in stone back in the days of Ancient Greece. Other songs were written down and included in collections of musical scores published in the 16th–18th centuries, but many survived by being passed down from mouth to mouth, from generation to generation. Having survived for centuries, some of the songs have transcended geographical boundaries and are now widely known throughout Europe.
This concert is a musical journey through the old continent, getting to know the melodies characteristic of different nations and the stories conveyed in songs about love and war, the joys and sorrows of life, and faith. The program interprets old and folk music using combinations of different styles. Together with R. Dubinskaite, this program will be performed by classical guitar performer, composer and singer Chris Ruebens (Belgium / Lithuania), who prepared the song arrangements, and the program will be supplemented with jazz improvisations by Remis Rančys (saxophones, flutes, melodion, percussion).
