Fighters for the freedom of Lithuania were imprisoned and tortured in 1944-1953 in three buildings of the town of Ignalina, which are protected by the state and included in the Register of Cultural Heritage. This is indicated by special tables. The former Agricultural Board building housed the NKVD office at the time, a detention center in the smaller building next door, and a prison on the other side of the road where the municipal housing is now located. The remains of the brutally tortured people were simply dropped in the square. Now there is a monument to those who died for the freedom of Lithuania.
