Manors, Churches, Ethnographical Villages, Mills

In Tverečius the first wooden church was built in 1501, Canons Regular were settled. Mikalojus Pacas, Voivode of Trakai in 1662 built a new church and monastery. In 1832 the monastery was closed by the Russian Government. Instead of the one that burned down in 1862 a new wooden church was built. In 1884, under the care of pastor Jonas Burba a new brick church was designed, but the government did not allow it to be built. When churches did not need government permission to build, engineer B. Kokijevskis-Kozėla in 1898 designed the present brick church. The current Tverečius St. Trinity Church was built in 1906 with the efforts of pastor Antanas Slapšis-Slapšinskas and parishioners' funds.

The church is Neo-Gothic, rectangular plan, two-towered, with a lower apse. The interior is basilica, with 3 naves separated by pillars, vaulted. The churchyard fence is stone masonry. During the First World War, the church towers were destroyed, in 1925 they were repaired. The works of art in the church are cultural monuments: paintings - "Mykolas Giedraitis", "Apostle Judas Tadas", "St. Magdalena", "St. The Miracle of John Kantietis" ("The Monk with the Pitcher"); sculptures - "St. Christopher", "Unknown Saint", "Christ Carrying the Cross".

Labai gaila...
