Visitor Center of Aukštaitija National Park

With children

Aukštaitija National Park is the oldest national park in Lithuania, established in 1974 with the aim of preserving the unique ecosystem of the upper Žeimena River, located at the junction of three landscape areas, and its natural and cultural values. The park area is 40,574 ha, with waters occupying 15.5% and forests 69% of the territory, making it the second largest national park in Lithuania.

The Aukštaitija National Park Visitor Center is located in the village of Palūšė.

The lake area has shaped the unique cultural traditions of the people who lived in the national park, so the main theme of the visitor center's exposition is „People of the Lakes“. Here you can learn about both ancient and modern fishing methods, as well as about the ferrying of souls and cows.

The exhibition at the Aukštaitija National Park Visitor Center is aimed at visitors of all ages.

Independent visit to the exhibition is free, but you can always support the protected area and purchase a voluntary visitor ticket (from 1.00 EUR/person).
